It was a day for versatile cricketers in GCA3 as Alexander Thomson recorded its first win for the season and Thomson went two-from-two.

It was a day for the all-rounders on Saturday in GCA3 first grade.

Alexander Thomson recorded its first win for the 2024-25 season with a three-wicket victory over Modewarre.

After a Round 1 tie, and then going down to last year’s grand finalists the following Saturday, the Vikings reduced Modewarre to 9-129 off its 50 overs at home, with captain Zac Mevissen leading the attack with a super economical spell of 3-20.

In reply, the skipper would chip in with an unbeaten 20 after AT wobbled a bit at 7-97 following handy contributions from Bailey Forssman (32) and Jack Macpherson (31) as Jackson O’Hanlon took 4-29.

Mevissen said it was a relief to bank his side’s first win of the season after a few heart palpitations during the Vikings’ innings.

“We made it hard for ourselves,” Mevissen said.

“(Forssman and Macpherson) both got out and there was a bit pressure, we needed about 30 or so when I came out to bat.

“It got a bit difficult to bat on, a few of our boys got balls that rolled.”

It was a similar story at VicTech Oval where Corio also got on the board for the first time this summer.

A fine Matthew Pratt century for Manifold Heights was in vain as Corio passed its competitive score with four wickets in hand.

Pratt’s 122 – with 10 boundaries and five sixes – was nearly 60 per cent of Manifold’s final score of 214.

The visitors had stumbled to 6-96 batting first before Pratt and Nick Pratt rescued the innings as Mitch Humm took 3-23.

In reply, the Devils, led by Ben Stratchan (74), Humm (29 not out), Anthony Grace (24) and Hunter Lewis (24 not out), reached the target with 10 balls to spare.

Nick Pratt stepped up with the ball as well, taking 3-41.

Meanwhile, Thomson is two from two after another relatively comfortable win batting second.

The Tigers passed Waurn Ponds Deakin’s 203 at Thomson Recreation Reserve with four wickets in hand as Seaver Cowley (58) and Josh Hartshorne (50) did the bulk of the scoring.

Again, it was all-rounder Cowley leading the Tigers attack with 4-42 with support from Xavier Dew (2-38).

At Bannockburn, Marshall compiled a big total for the second Saturday in a row, this time with 9-282 against the Bulls.

And for the second Saturday in succession, the Bears’ top six all reached double figures as Lachie Cameron (79 off just 33 balls), Mike Norris (77) and Phil Lang (40) top scored.

Bannockburn was restricted to 7-194 (Ashton Phillips 62, Tanner Hay 30) with Norris (2-37) and Levi Falvey (2-30) the multiple wicket tackers for the Bears.
