The Adelaide Strikers have been crowned champions of the Top End T20 Series.

The BBL franchise won its maiden title at the third edition of the competition after defeating a talented Bangladesh High Performance side by 32 runs in the grand final on Sunday.

Out at DXC Arena in front of a vocal crowd, the Strikers were sent in to bat first after Bangladesh won the toss.

Bangladesh struck early, running out opening bat Jake Winter for four runs in the second over.

Adelaide quickly found their feet through Harry Matthias (19), Tom O’Connell (53) and captain Liam Scott (30) who scored 99 runs between them.

Harry Maneti fell for one off six, but his teammates Ryan King and Sam Rahaley quickly piled on the runs to enable the Strikes to post 7/169 after their allotted overs.

The men from Bangladesh got off to a solid start with the bat, posting 2/47 in the seventh over collapsing to 7/92 in the 13th.

A late flurry of runs saw the Bangladesh side stay in the fight, but the men from South Australia were too good, bowling their opponents out for 137 with a ball to spare.

Elated with the victory and the competition as a whole, Strikers captain Scott said Bangladesh put up a fight, and that he was looking forward to the ensuing celebrations.

“First of all, I’d like to thank Bangladesh for a fantastic final, competitive all the way,” he said on Kayo after the match.

Secondly, Gavin and NT Cricket, unreal couple of weeks. Darwin this time of year (is great) when down south (the weather) is pretty grim. (Darwin has) Unreal grounds, facilities, groundsmen, scorers, umpires, thank you all very much.

“It’s been a great couple of weeks and I had a great time.

“To our (Strikers) boys, congratulations, we had to dig in there for a little bit but we fought hard all the way to the end and hopefully we’ll be able to celebrate well tonight.”
