EVERYTHING’S coming up roses – and orchids, dahlias and chrysanthemums — this Valentine’s Day.
While the traditional red rose is expected to be “as popular as ever” for the day of love tomorrow, Adelaide Arcade florist Louise Woodhouse said suitors could also use other blooms to show they care.
“There are other options that say passion as much as a red rose,” she said.
“The hottest bouquet right now is probably all about colour and unusual blooms ... perhaps something unusual like a phalaenopsis orchid or an anthurium, alongside big blowsy roses.”
Ms Woodhouse said it was important to put thought into your choice of bouquet.
“When people come in, if they give us a couple of key words about the person they’re buying for then we can put together something that speaks to them,” she said. At The Flower Nook in Topham Mall, owner Sophie Kresevic favoured “something nice and bright”. “Chrysanthemums are always really popular because they are really long lasting, so this year we’re putting those with chrysanthemum ping pongs, lisianthus and then a few roses in there,” she said. Simone, of Adelaide, said she wasn’t fussy with flowers. “I think branching out from traditional roses is really beautiful,” she said.
