COMMUTERS have been left scratching their heads at bus stops with no busses as the city struggles to come to grips with new transport tables rolled out today.
Timetables have been changed for 67 routes to accommodate the new O-Bahn tunnel, including a host of North Terrace stops shifting to Grenfell and Currie streets.
Almost all buses have been directed away from North Terrace, while commuters have voiced confusion of where, and when, their new services depart.
Transport Minister Stephen Mulligan told Radio Adelaide the transition could have run more seamlessly.
“We’ve got to make sure that customers have got a smooth experience on public transport – that’s what keeps them using it,” Mr Mulligan said.
“That’s the whole idea behind the O-Bahn tunnel and if we’ve let our socks fall down in that particular area then we’ve got to do a better job in the future.”
Paul Kermode from the Department of Transport said there would be representatives at the stops today to help people with the changes.
He said almost all buses have been directed away from North Terrace.
“There’s a few of the City Connector ones that are going (down North Terrace) but the vast majority of our buses are now redirected down Currie and Grenfell streets and that’s to help with that flow of traffic on North Terrace,” he told ABC Radio Adelaide.
Mr Mulligan said some services would still run down North Terrace, with new tram services to roll out within months.
“There are some services which still will go down North Terrace from the north eastern suburbs; services like the H30, the 174, the 176 and the 178,” Mr Mulligan said.
“They don’t currently use the O-Bahn track but they will service locations like the Paradise interchange and North Terrace.
