A 63-year-old South Townsville man has been charged after allegedly damaging cars with a “large socket wrench” before using the tool to strike a man in the head.
It is alleged that on June 2 at around 4:45pm, the man damaged at least seven vehicles along McIlwraith Street.
During the incident, the man allegedly swung the wrench at man through the open window of his car and struck him in the head.
Thankfully, the man didn’t require medical attention
The 63-year-old is then alleged to have fled towards Palmer Street and was taken into custody on the Victoria Bridge at around 4:55pm.
He was charged with two counts of wilful damage and one count each of going armed so as to cause fear and assault occasioning bodily harm.
He was remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Townsville Magistrates Court on June 24.
Investigators are asking anyone who’s vehicle may have been damaged on McIlwraith Street in South Townsville at around 4:40pm on June 2 or anyone who may have dashcam footage or witnessed the incident to contact police.
