Woman hit by truck on Melbourne freeway fights for life

A woman is fighting for life after she was hit by a truck on a major freeway in Melbourne’s southwest.

The woman in her 50s pulled into an emergency stopping zone on the Princes Freeway in Werribee just before 1am on Monday.

Police believe the woman stepped onto the road before she was hit by a B-double truck.

She suffered severe leg injuries and was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

A Victoria Ambulance spokesperson also said the woman suffered upper and lower body injuries.

The male truck driver stopped at the scene but was not injured in the incident.

An investigation has been launched, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
