A truck has veered off a motorway north of Sydney and erupted in flames early on Wednesday morning.

Wildest Aussie dashcam accidents

A semi-trailer driver has had a lucky escape when his truck erupted in flames after veering off the M1 north of Sydney early on Wednesday.

Emergency crews attended the scene just after 1am at Mount White on the Central Coast after a triple-0 caller raised the alarm.

Crews arrived to find the truck heading northbound had run off the motorway into bushland and was well alight, a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said.

The truck driver had managed to escape his vehicle by the time crews arrived.

The truck, carrying a small amount of paper, had spilt fuel onto the ground.

The fire was extinguished about 3.30am, the spokesman said.

A man, believed to be in his 40s, who was the single occupant of the vehicle, was taken in a stable condition to the Royal North Shore Hospital, a NSW Ambulance spokesman said.

He suffered a laceration to his head and minor leg injuries.

A Transport Management Centre spokeswoman said one of three lanes that was closed as a result of the crash was being reopened.

She said early morning traffic had been unaffected, and authorities would return to the scene later on Wednesday to remove the truck.
