A New South Wales motorist who is banned from driving until 2032 has been charged after he was stopped for a drug test in the state’s south.

A New South Wales motorist who is banned from driving until 2032 has been charged after he was stopped for a drug test in the state’s south.

Riverina Highway Patrol officers stopped the 50-year-old driver just before 3pm on Thursday as he was travelling south in a Holden Commodore on the Olympic Highway at Bethungra.

He was given a random breath and drug test and allegedly returned a positive detection for methylamphetamine (ice), according to NSW Police.

“In a subsequent search of the vehicle, police located methylamphetamine (ice), drug paraphernalia and prescription medication,” police said.

“Following a further examination of the vehicle, officers issued several defect notices for assorted breaches.”

Checks revealed the man was disqualified from holding a licence until November 2032.

The man was arrested and taken to Cootamundra Police Station, where he underwent a secondary oral fluid test, which allegedly returned a positive result for methylamphetamine.

He was charged with driving during a disqualification period, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs, possession of prohibited drugs and possession of a prescribed restricted substance.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Wagga Wagga Bail Court on Friday.

The checks were part of proactive patrols as part of NSW Police’s state-wide Easter Operation.

He isn’t the first driver who won’t stop breaking the rules after a disqualification.

In 2015, a driver was jailed for “accidentally” getting behind the wheel despite being banned from holding a ­licence for 45 years after 12 offences.

Serial road pest Nathaniel Barker was seen driving by the Saturday Telegraph in 2015 despite having been warned he could be jailed after he was disqualified from driving until 2092.
