‘Lost a brother’: Couple who died after tree fell on their car remembered

A WA couple who died in a bizarre accident during wild weather have been remembered as well-loved in the community.

An elderly couple tragically killed when a large tree fell on their car have been identified.

Lynne, 78, and Brian Warren, 75, were driving a grey Isuzu D-Max along Graphite Rd in Deanmill in Western Australia’s southwest on Wednesday.

They were reportedly driving home to Margaret River after a few days in Perth.

A large tree fell onto the car about 3.30pm and killed the elderly couple.

Major crash investigators examined the scene on Wednesday and asked witnesses or anyone with footage of the crash to contact Crime Stoppers.

The Waratahs Cricket Club of Armidale have shared a touching tribute to the couple on Facebook, saying their “wide circle of friends are suffering” following the news.

“Brian was an excellent cricketer, a brilliant tactician on and off the field, a superb man manager,” the post read.

“His generosity and encouragement was never limited by wearing that daffodil cap because he was soaked in the real spirit of cricket.”

One of the couple’s close friends, Mike Porter, said he got to know Mr Warren when he was part of the committee Mr Warren had chaired, “which reshaped Armidale cricket in 1981”.

“He was an encourager. He saw the best in people, even when it was hidden deep and (he) drew it out,” he said.

“Wherever Brian was, Lynne was also. Their wide circle of everlasting friends are suffering tonight.

“Waratahs of old and The Tahs of now extend their deepest sympathy to their sons. We who love the game have lost a brother.”

The Warrens were reportedly well known in the community for their volunteering, according to 9 NEWS.

More tributes have rolled in on Facebook, with community members saying they’re “gutted”.

“That is devastating, they were such beautiful people. So sad to hear,” one wrote.

“Shocked and horrified barely covers it. Such fantastic people – Lynne was one of the most level-headed, caring, warm people you could ever meet. What a dreadful tragedy,” another wrote.

“Such amazing, community minded people. Huge loss for Margaret River. Sending love to their family & dear friends,” added another.
