A second man has died following a horror multi-car crash that closed Sydney’s famed Harbour Bridge.

A second man has died following a horror multi-car crash that closed Sydney’s famed Harbour Bridge.

Emergency services were called to the bridge shortly after 1.30pm on Thursday following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

One man died at the scene and a second was left in a critical condition.

In a statement shortly before 4pm, police said a second man had also died at the scene.

Both men are yet to be formally identified.

Police said a man had been arrested after allegedly riding through the scene on his motorcycle while paramedics were treating a number of other people.

The man was taken to Day Street police station where officers said he is assisting with their inquiries.

A crime scene had also since been established with officers attached to the Crash Investigations Unit investigating the incident.

The bridge was initially closed in both direction with motorists being advised to instead use the harbour tunnel.

By 3pm, a single southbound lane had been reopened according to Live Traffic Sydney – all northbound lanes remained closed.

The bus driver was uninjured. No passengers were on board at the time.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and check Live Traffic for updates.

Video uploaded to social media showed traffic banked up past on ramps on to the bridge.

In another video, a helicopter was seen landing at the famed bridge following the closure.

Police are warning of ongoing traffic chaos on Thursday evening.

They advised people headed to Olympic Park for two concerts – Travis Scott and Olivia Rodrigo – will need to take alternative routes.
