An Army truck has driven into the roof of a Queensland service station, with pictures showing serious damage.

Beams holding up the structure could be seen completely bent from the force of the truck, while a bowser was also pushed out of place.

It is understood two people were inside the truck when it tried to pull into the Ampol service station at Sarina, near Mackay, on its way to a military exercise on Tuesday afternoon.

It appears the driver misjudged just how high the vehicle was, with police and firefighters called to the scene soon after the collision.

A Defence spokesperson confirmed to news.com.au no one was injured.

“The vehicles were travelling from Brisbane to Townsville for Exercise Vigilant Scimitar,” the spokesperson said.

“Defence is working with Queensland Police to secure the area and remove the vehicle from the site.

“Defence thanks the public for their understanding and remains committed to ensuring the safety of all Australian Defence Force personnel during training activities.”

Service station staff reportedly turned off power to the fuel line and engineers were expected to assess the situation.

An Ampol spokesperson told news.com.au the engineers would determine the extent of damage.

“A report will be provided to the owner thereafter which will determine the site’s operational options,” a spokesman said.

While the service station trades as Ampol, it is not owned by the company.
