Hyundai has recalled over 5000 of its cars amid fears a manufacturing issue could cause serious injury.
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications has issued a recall of 5,211 Hyundai i30 Sedans (CN7) 2020 – 2022.
“Due to a manufacture issue, the seat belt pre-tensioner inflator may fracture when deployed in the event of an accident,” the department said.
“If the seat belt pre-tensioner inflator fractures, metal fragments may be propelled at high speed towards the vehicle’s occupants, causing serious injury.”
The owners of recalled vehicles will be contacted by Hyundai Motor Company Australia in writing and will be requested to make an appointment with their preferred authorised Hyundai dealership to have the component inspected and rectified.
The appointment, inspection and correction will be free of charge.
