Mitsubishi will unveil a new Triton ute next month.
The next-gen ute will benefit from new looks and a fresh cabin to help it take the fight to best-selling models such as the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger.
A butch new facade draws parallels with the latest Mitsubishi Outlander, and follows the truck-like ute styling trend set by the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok.
Shorter overhangs should improve its off-road abilities, and sporty-looking additions to the cargo area suggest Mitsubishi will be ready to take-on fully-loaded utes such as the Toyota HiLux Rogue as soon as the new model goes on sale.
On the inside, a new interior is expected to borrow heavily from the latest Mitsubishi Outlander SUV.
Technical details are yet to be confirmed, but we expect the Triton to receive a powerful turbo diesel engine capable of carrying a tonne in the tray and towing 3.5 tonnes.
Seiji Watanabe, division general manager of design, Mitsubishi Motors, said the Triton has been “completely reimagined under the design concept Beast Mode, or audacious and daring”.
“While expressing the toughness and powerfulness expected of a pick-up truck, the all-new Triton combines agility with the brand’s robust design to create an imposing look,” he said.
“Tough and reliable, the all-new Triton will make customers want to go on any adventure. “Please look forward to seeing it in full this July.”
A spokesman for Mitsubishi Australia said the brand’s local arm was “a key stakeholder in the next-generation Triton’s development process”.
“The light commercial utility segment is more competitive than [ever], and we are confident that next-generation Triton will take Mitsubishi’s enduring presence in this market to the next level,” they said.
“We look forward to sharing more details of the development process, and of the new Triton’s Australian range, specification, timings and pricing as we move towards delivering this next-generation utility vehicle to Australian customers.”
