Hundreds of models of a luxury Toyota car range have had their vehicles recalled, after the model was found to have faulty airbags which may cause them not to deploy.

A recall was issued for Toyota Kluger petrol and hybrid models built in 2023 on Wednesday.

It includes those with 2WD, AWS and hybrid features.

The driver’s side airbag was determined faulty after reports the wiring harness connection may become loose over time.

If this happens, the airbag warning light will illuminate and the driver side airbag will not deploy in an accident, increasing the risk of injury or death to all passengers.

At least 625 cars have been impacted by the safety concern, according to a notice posted on the Department of Transport’s recall website.

When parts become available, Toyota will contact affected owners in writing requesting they make an appointment with their nearest authorised Toyota dealer for inspection and if necessary rectify, free of charge.

Drivers have been urged to contact the Toyota Recall Assist helpline on 1800 987 366.
