Honda has confirmed prices for its new ZR-V SUV.
The ZR-V will slot between the current HR-V compact SUV and the mid-sized CR-V SUV in the Japanese brand’s local line-up. The current CR-V is due to be overhauled soon and is likely to return as a bigger full-size seven-seat SUV.
Prices for the four-tier ZR-V line-up start at $40,200 drive-away for the base VTi X grade and rise to $54,900 for the hybrid powered e: HEV LX variant.
That is about $3500 more than the entry-point into the slightly smaller HR-V range. The hybrid variant commands a whopping $7900 premium.
It is also almost $5000 more expensive than the cheapest current CR-V.
All Honda prices are fixed since the brand switched to an “agency model” in 2021, which means the head office owns all the stock and sets a standard non-negotiable price for its vehicles.
Buyers and dealers can no longer haggle on prices and instead the franchised dealers simply deliver and service the vehicles.
The new ZR-V is due to land in showrooms later this month and the company is already taking deposits.
Honda has been very tight-lipped with information for the new ZR-V.
We do know that the three petrol-powered variants will use a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the hybrid model will be powered by a 2.0-litre non-turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor.
These same setups are found in the Honda Civic.
The petrol-powered Honda Civic makes 131kW and 240Nm and the hybrid makes 135kW and 315Nm. Both are front-wheel drive.
The ZR-V will have a comprehensive array of safety tech, flashy alloy-wheels and a nine-inch infotainment display with plug-in Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.
It is slightly smaller than the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 but larger than the Corolla Cross and CX-30.
