This wife has lied to her husband about her $40,000 credit card debt

This mother-of-two has kept one big dark financial secret from her husband, so should she come clean and tell the truth?

Financial infidelity can bust up relationships.

What may start as a small but harmless lie can quickly turn into a much bigger problem that gets you into serious trouble.

As they say honesty is always the best policy but when it comes to money this may be easier said than done for some.

I was recently told this tale of a woman lying to her husband about her true financial state.

Married with two kids she’s carried a big fat lie with her for many years now and it’s too far down the track to spill the beans.

You see she’d recently been handed a massive sum of money after she was made redundant.

Her husband, who is incredibly savvy, thought it was the perfect opportunity to wipe a chunk off their mortgage and put them in a better financial state.

But little did he know what his wife was hiding from him.

It’s a secret that could easily bust them up.

After they got married she amassed a whopping $40,000 credit card debt and it’s growing thanks to nasty double-digit interest charges.

Buying clothes, shoes and goodness knows what else the amount owing on her little evil piece of plastic had quickly mounted up into an eye-watering debt.

But her trusting husband to this day remains none the wiser.

She’s able to look him in the eye and lie to him, or rather, fail to mention this skeleton in the closet.

So instead she’s taken the easy option, she’s kept the debt and maintained this massive lie.

How she sleeps at night remains unknown, but what is for sure is she won’t be telling her husband anytime soon.

Recent Westpac research found one in 10 Australians have a sneaky bank account that their other half has no idea about.

And six out of 10 people in a relationship still choose to keep their finances separate.

But what also remains unknown is that if this woman is lying about this debt, what other lies is she keeping from her husband.

If she spills the beans it could go one of two ways, the pair use her payout to wipe this massive debt and get back in the black.

Or two, her husband is mortified that woman he married and trusted has been lying to him.

And he may decide to end their marriage.

So for this woman the predicament she’s in has resulted in her deciding honesty is too dangerous.

Maintaining a lie can be difficult to do and what she must understand in most cases is the truth does comes out.

One day if the couple decide to refinance their home loan she’s stuffed.

The bank will put both of their finances under the microscope and her dirty laundry will be aired.

As some would say it’s better late than never to tell the truth, but either way her husband is likely to eventually find out.

She’s best to come clean now, wipe the debt and face the repercussions before the problem gets any worse.

And also chop up that damn credit card.
