Some of the hottest property out west isn’t necessarily what you might think.
South Australians have been eager to secure their final piece of real estate at the new $2 million mausoleum at the Cheltenham Cemetery.
The mausoleum contains 96 companion and 16 single crypts.
Adelaide Cemeteries Authority chief executive Robert Pitt said there has been strong demand, with 30 per cent of its crypts already sold before an official opening this weekend.
Mr Pitt said the majority of pre-purchased sites had been secured by South Australians with many years still ahead of them.
“The opportunity to secure a final resting place of choice, ahead of time, appeals to many people, to ease the burden on family and to meet their personal preferences and needs,” he said.
Riccardo Lazzaris, 64, of Fulham, secured his spot at the mausoleum so he could be only metres from the final resting place of his father Luciano, who is interred in a vault at Cheltenham.
“I wanted to get in early to get the space I wanted,” he said.
Mr Lazzaris, whose family has lived in the western suburbs for more than 60 years, inquired about the mausoleum after seeing a billboard at the cemetery.
“After seeing artist’s impressions of how it was going to look, I expected it would look good, and it’s certainly met expectations,” he said.
