FORMER Port Adelaide forward Brett Ebert has not ruled out a potential move into coaching but for now is focused on playing for Henley in the Adelaide Footy League.

Ebert, who retired from the AFL five years ago, signed with the Sharks last month ahead of their return to the top tier.

With 166 AFL games and a Magarey Medal to his name, Ebert, 34, will add experience under new coach Jarrad Parker.

“There’s a fair few young guys down at Henley, so it would be good to play a bit of a leadership role and help out in the forward line,” Ebert says.

“I’ll be just playing at the moment, but you never know, in the future I wouldn’t mind doing something with coaching, but I’m not exactly sure when yet.

“I’ll just try and keep playing as long as possible while the body is feeling good and then work it out from there.”

Ebert, the son of Port Adelaide legend Russell Ebert, played for Goolwa/Port Elliot in the Great Southern League the past two seasons.

He joined Henley to be closer to home and his Grange personal training business, Ebert Health and Fitness.

He is excited about adding an extra dimension to Henley’s forward line and hopes the side can make finals after winning last season’s division two decider.

“I played forward for Goolwa last year and kicked a few goals, so hopefully I can help on the scoreboard,” the 2003 Magarey Medallist says.

“It’s a bit of a step up going back up to div one, but they’ve kept a lot of good players that were there last year and added a few new players which is good.”

Ebert kicked 240 goals in his 10-year AFL career and although he still supports the Power, he did not watch many games last season.

He does still catch up with former teammates and reckons the Power could challenge for the flag this year following handy additions including ex-Brisbane midfielder Tom Rockliff and former Cat Steven Motlop.

“They (the Power) look like they’ve got a pretty good list.

“They’ve recruited pretty hard and traded pretty hard, so fingers crossed they do well.”
