SA BASKETBALL great Al Green will not return to Woodville Basketball Club after his ticket lost a vote to oust the committee that sacked him as coach.
Woodville members voted in favour of retaining the existing board at a meeting at Flinders Park Community Centre on July 19.
It came two months after the Warriors dumped Green after what he called a personality clash with club president Benn McDonald.
Green, now an assistant coach at Forestville, said he was glad he could move on.
“I’m happy,” Green said.
“Deep down in my heart, I don’t want to be there because the bridge has already burned.”
But the former Adelaide 36ers and West Adelaide star said he still planned to sue the Warriors for unfair dismissal and defamation.
He said McDonald used an assistant coach’s bullying complaint as an excuse to sack him and he was not given a reasonable chance to defend the allegations.
Forestville sits fifth going into this week’s final minor round, while Woodville is top of the ladder.
Green said he would find it tough if his new side meets his old one in the finals.
“I’m torn between one thing that I built and now I’m trying to destroy (as assistant with Forestville),” he said.
Green hoped to return to senior coaching next season at another club.
“This team (Forestville) is awesome and a classy group but … I want to coach my own team,” he said.
McDonald declined to comment.
