A woman has learnt her fate for attempting to smuggle drugs into jail just months after she was caught with a notebook filled with 100 people’s credit card details.

A woman with a drug problem has been given yet another chance by the court to prove she can turn her life around.

Sophia Fedele, 25, had her 30-day jail term suspended after her unsophisticated attempt to deliver her boyfriend drugs in jail was uncovered.

The Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard three express post envelopes were received at Mobilong prison in Murray Bridge on April 7, 2020.

The packages were addressed to three separate prisoners, one being Fedele’s partner, and contained seven Suboxone strips.

Suboxone is commonly used for opioid addiction and people who are coming off heroin.

Fedele had also breached her bail conditions by returning positive drug tests.

The court heard Fedele breached both a suspended sentence for commercial drug trafficking and a good behaviour bond with that offending.

She was sentenced to that good behaviour bond after police attended an apartment in November, 2019 in relation to a stolen card that had been used to rent a room.

Police found Fedele’s notebook which contained approximately 100 different credit card details and other personal details of people.

Fedele, of Enfield, pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including delivering a prohibited item to a prisoner.

The court heard Fedele had taken significant steps in addressing her drug issues.

The court heard Fedele had previously worked in hospitality but was currently unemployed.

“I accept your conduct wasn’t sophisticated, nor was it particularly well planned,” Magistrate Edward Stratton-Smith said during sentencing.

“Delivering or attempting to deliver an illicit substance inside a prison is a serious matter.”

Mr Stratton-Smith sentenced Fedele to 30 days in jail.

The sentence was suspended on a 12-month, $300 good behaviour bond.

“If you relapse or reoffend, I think you know the consequences,” Mr Stratton-Smith said.
