IT’S surely every beach-goer’s worst nightmare: A snake slithering over you — or even beside your beach towel — while you’re sunbathing.
A man has taken a video of a snake making its way across one of Adelaide’s most popular beaches.
Rick Cecere captured footage of the brown snake moving along the foreshore, about 300 metres north of Henley jetty, on Saturday.
Mr Cecere’s video, posted on his Facebook, shows the snake sliding past beach towels placed near the rocks on the Esplanade at Henley Beach.
Mr Cecere, who gave The Advertiser permission to publish his footage, said he took the vision to warn swimmers of the prevalence of snakes.
He said he has been overwhelmed by the response to the social media post.
“I certainly did not think it would get 100,000 hits — but I guess that means it is doing the job,” he says.
Charles Sturt chief executive Paul Sutton says the council has been notified of two snake sightings at Henley Beach so far this spring.
“If you do come across a snake, keep children and pets well clear and avoid touching it,” Mr Sutton says.
“Almost all snake bites occur when people try to handle, kill or harm a snake.”
