A witness to a random stabbing attack on a teen has told how he came to find the bleeding boy outside his Semaphore home on Monday night.

A Semaphore South man has told of how he came to find a stabbed teenager outside his home following a terrifying attack at Semaphore on Monday night.

A 16-year-old boy and his two friends were near the Semaphore Jetty on Monday night, about 7pm, when the teen was allegedly assaulted by a group of males unknown to him, and stabbed in the leg.

His friends attempted to drive him to hospital, but stopped on Bower Rd and called an ambulance.

Semaphore South resident Nigel Fox said he went outside his home just after 7pm on Monday night after hearing a commotion.

“I was just hanging at my place when I heard a bit of noise going on outside, and the people sounded agitated,” he said.

“I went out there and there was a young bloke lying on the grass next to the footpath.”

The Salisbury East boy had a single stab wound to the back of his upper leg and his friends had applied a tourniquet to stem the bleeding.

Mr Fox said the boys told how they had been chased by 15 to 20 men of African appearance near the Palais on the Esplanade and the group had attempted to take the 16-year-old’s phone.

“They’re only 15 or 16-year-old kids but his friends handled themselves really well, they were very mature,” Mr Fox said.

Mr Fox stayed and talked with the boy, trying to calm him while the emergency services got to the scene.

He said while it was a scary incident, he was confident at the time that the boy’s injury was not life-threatening.

“His jeans were pretty bloody but the bleeding has basically stopped,” he said.

Mr Fox said the incident did not make his fearful of his safety at Semaphore.

“I’d be a lot more worried if it was something that happened frequently down here,” he said.

The 16-year-old was taken from the Semaphore South scene to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The suspects had left the area prior to police arriving on the scene.

The investigation remains on going, anyone with information or anyone who has CCTV footage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report on line at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
