See inside Adelaide’s new $65m shopping precinct at old Brickworks Markets site

A NEW $65 million shopping precinct at the old Brickworks Markets site is to open next month. Here’s a sneak peek inside, including the retailers you’ll see.

A POPULAR green grocer and a trendy, alfresco dining precinct are tipped to be headline attractions when the new Brickworks Shopping Centre is unveiled next month.

The $65 million shopping precinct on South Rd, Torrensville, is due to open on June 25.

The 45-shop complex will include a Woolworths supermarket, BIG W, restaurants and a barber.

There will also be a Jeanswest, Flight Centre, Wok in a Box and Choice Pharmacy.

Popular family-owned greengrocer Tony & Marks will expand their brand to the western suburbs after 35 years at stores in Newton and Glenunga.

Paul Capobianco, whose father Mark co-founded the shop in 1978, said the Brickworks shop would feature a gourmet deli, florist and cafe.

“We had so many of our regular clients telling us to move to the western side of town,” Mr Capobianco, 25, said.

“We haven’t been located inside a big shopping precinct before and this is the largest of our stores so this is a very exciting venture.”

The northern end of the complex — next to the State Heritage-listed brick kiln — will feature an alfresco dining precinct, including popular eateries Burger Bar and Zambreros.

The area surrounding the kiln, which is set to be sold by West Torrens Council, will have a children’s playground and casual seating.

West Torrens chief executive Terry Buss said the council had chosen a preferred buyer for the kiln, but would not name them as contract negotiations were confidential.

The council sold the 4.8ha Brickworks market site to Woolworths in 2013.

Woolworths development manager Andrew Loveday said 200 jobs had been created during the 15-month construction of the complex, with a further 600 jobs available when trading begins.

West Torrens Mayor John Trainer said the development would draw shoppers from across Adelaide.

“(This project) has transformed an ugly eyesore into a modern shopping centre that is going to bring this section of the district to life,” Mr Trainer said.
