A Henley Beach resident was greeted by two unusual visitors on Tuesday morning.

The resident went to the front of her Fleetwood Crescent home to find two sheep in her yard.

Two police officers kept watch on the animals until RSPCA rescue officer Nalika van Loenen arrived.

The officers and Ms van Loenen attempted to herd the sheep into the property’s backyard, however the larger male animal managed to escape.

A member of the public helped to corner and capture the animal.

The sheep were then taken back to the RSPCA shelter at Lonsdale, where they will are now waiting for their owner to claim them.

“It’s not every day we receive calls to capture sheep in suburbia,” Ms van Loenen said.

“My guess is that these two are family pets, perhaps living lawnmowers for someone.

“Luckily no-one was injured, because clearly having animals roaming at large poses a serious risk not only for the animals but also for motorists.”

A post on the Lost Pets of South Australia Facebook page quickly racked up more than 60 comments, with many saying sheep by the beach is not something you see every day.
