Sacked Aldinga coach Shane Lynch gets fresh start at Mitchell Park
THE Adelaide footy coach sacked last year after his team lost the first two games of the season by a combined 457 points is back — as coach of another club.
A FOOTBALL coach who made global headlines for being sacked after a 300-point loss is back in the fold.
Amateur league club Mitchell Park has appointed former Aldinga Sharks mentor Shane Lynch as its new coach.
In April last year, the Sharks dumped Lynch just two rounds into the southern Football League season after they were thrashed by a combined margin of 457 points.
And it led to The Advertiser’s “Spark the Sharks” campaign and Hawthorn great Shane Crawford making a comeback for Aldinga in a drought-breaking win.
Aldinga president Danny Wilde said Lynch, who has also coached Hills Football League clubs Onkaparinga Valley and Bridgewater, deserved another opportunity.
“We’ve got to respect Shane for what he tried to do given the circumstances and the players he had,” Wilde said.
“He’s very passionate about football and deserves another crack at it.”
Mitchell Park won just one of its 18 games last season, had an average losing margin of 172 points and was relegated from division six to seven after finishing bottom.
Lions officials and Lynch declined to comment.
