Range of New Year’s events cancelled including Semaphore fireworks
A New Year’s Eve fireworks event planned for the western suburbs has gone up in smoke – the second sky show cancellation in as many weeks.

New Year’s Eve fireworks at Semaphore won’t happen this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
This follows the cancellation of fireworks at Glenelg and Brighton by Holdfast Bay council last week.
Adelaide City Council also announced the cancellation of its Elder Park 9pm party and fireworks in mid-September.
Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Claire Boan said council was still in the process of planning its summer season events, but New Year’s fireworks had been ruled out.
“While it has been a challenging year for events around the state, we still want to provide safe opportunities for our community to celebrate New Year,” she said.
“While we won’t be having fireworks on New Year’s Eve this year, we are scoping a range of exciting activities for families to enjoy on a smaller scale across the summer season, while keeping people COVID safe.
“In order to keep everyone safe, things will look a bit different this year and we are sure people will love what we are planning.”
Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson said council was encouraging people to get in early with their New Year’s Eve plans, and support locals by booking in early to restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs across the west’s coastline.
Adelaide City Counil celebrations will move its New Year’s Eve celebrations onto the streets of Adelaide and North Adelaide with live music, roving performers and outdoor seating on footpaths and roads.
The council is also investigating a five-minute pyrotechnics display at midnight, along with hybrid lighting elements from city buildings.
