A new $1.5m childcare centre is set to be built at Taperoo, after plans were lodged with the State Commission Assessment Panel.
Located on Military Rd at Taperoo, plans for the childcare centre were lodged by urban planning group Future Urban.
Plans include a two storey child care centre, advertisements including one free standing pylon sign and acoustic fencing.
The lower level of the centre is proposed to have three group spaces and one shared area; reception and foyer; office; kitchen, bathrooms, preparation space; and cot and nappy change rooms.
The upper level is proposed to have 316sq m of outdoor play space; two group spaces and one shared area; a staffroom; laundry; and bathrooms.
The childcare centre will provide early education for up to 92 preschool-aged children.
Operating hours will be from 6.30am until 6.30pm Monday to Friday, with the odd open day on weekends.
The centre expects to employ 15 staff members.
The report states there is a need for extra childcare in the area, with residents moving to the Lefevre Peninsula on the back of defence and shipbuilding jobs and to take advatange of affordable housing.
“The proposed use will provide a contemporary facility for both children and staff while also
offering additional childcare places to serve an under provisioned area,” the report said.
The area is currently zoned as residential.
