The final section of the Outer Harbor Greenway has been completed, providing cyclists with a safe and continuous route from the city to Port Adelaide and the Le Fevre Peninsula.
The construction of a $1 million State Government funded shared-use path in Brompton completed the almost 20km Greenway.
Starting in the Adelaide Park Lands, it is made up of such pathways along with low-traffic roads where cyclists share the route with motorists.
Bowden resident Will Powrie says the completed Greenway will encourage more western suburbs people to cycle into the city.
“It’s a lot less stressful and we can ride all the way into the city without having to cross a single major road,” Mr Powrie says.
“Hopefully it will also reduce the amount of traffic on the roads coming from Port Adelaide and encourage people to ride their bikes.”
The Greenway largely follows the Outer Harbor railway line and provides safe crossing of main roads such as South, Woodville and Grand Junction roads via underpasses or signal-controlled crossings.
Transport Minister Stephan Knoll says the path is just one of many State Government cycling infrastructure projects encouraging active travel.
“As we see more and more development spring up in the Port Adelaide area, this Greenway will provide residents and tourists with the ability to cycle to and from the Port,” Mr Knoll says.
