Plans have been lodged with the State Government for a $20 million expansion of Seaton High.
It would include a new two-storey learning centre, an “entrepreneurial hub”, an extension of the gym and a renovation of one of the existing buildings at the Glenburnie St high school.
It would allow the school – which already has 17 more students than it should – to increase its capacity from 900 children to 1200.
Staff would also grow from 88.5 full time equivalents to 120.
The campus is preparing to accept Year 7 students from the start of the 2022 school year.
The new learning centre would include a library, reception, teacher offices, meeting rooms, staff lounge, and extra classrooms.
The entrepreneurial hub would be made up of four small buildings with eight “flexible teaching” spaces.
All the buildings would be linked by a large roof to provide an outdoor teaching area.
A new entrance and changerooms, including for people with disabilities, would be attached to the existing gymnasium.
Education Minister John Gardner said the project was a “glimpse of the modern, state-of-the-art learning spaces” that would be built under $1.3 billion school redevelopment fund announced this year.
He said its new entrepreneurial hub would make it one of five specialist entrepreneurial schools across SA.
“The school will also benefit from the refurbishment of areas to accommodate its art, music and drama precinct … as well as the removal of transportable buildings and asbestos, and the demolition of ageing infrastructure,” Mr Gardner said.
