Firefighters have tackled a blaze inside a two-storey unit containing asbestos at Birkenhead.

The MFS received numerous triple-0 calls about a fire at Fletcher Rd around 7pm on Monday.

The fire in the upper floor was well alight before it was extinguished by 25 firefighters and six appliances.

A warning was issued for members of the public to stay away because of the asbestos.

The fire caused smoke and water damage to neighbouring properties.

Two people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

No damage bill was available as of Monday night.
