A notorious former bikie was one of about 15 people thought to have carried out a violent and threatening attack on a man they believed assaulted a young woman, a court has heard.

Former Finks and Comanchero bikie Mark Andrew Sandery allegedly hit the man in the head with a hammer before then stomping on the head of a completely innocent woman.

Sandery, 51, of Kilburn, on Wednesday made an application for bail in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court after being arrested the day before and charged with attempted serious criminal trespass and two counts of aggravated causing harm with intent.

The court heard Sandery became incensed after seeing footage of the man hitting the young woman – his son’s girlfriend – before allegedly heading to his house with a hammer and hitting him through the front fly screen.

A police prosecutor told Magistrate Paul Foley, half an hour later Sandery believed a woman had pulled his son by the hair, so he allegedly pushed her over and stomped on her head.

After realising she was not the one who pulled her hair, the court heard, Sandery apologised to her.

The prosecutor said police were opposed to any form of bail for Sandery, and cited his significant criminal history as being the primary reason, as well as his links to outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Footage of the alleged brawl, in which Sandery was charged alongside a 20-year-old, 18-year-old and 17-year-old, all from Largs Bay, emerged on Wednesday.

Police alleged Sandery was capsicum sprayed in their attempts to arrest him.

Sandery has long been known as one of the most feared bikie associates in South Australia.

He was once the Mongols sergeant-at-arms before defecting to rival outlaw motorcycle gang the Finks.

Sandery’s then-11-year-old son was in 2011 shot in the leg during a violent home invasion carried out by former Hells Angel associate Arron James Cluse, 21.

In court on Wednesday, Sandery said those bikie associations were “a former part of my life”.

He appeared in court, from custody, unrepresented, and told Mr Foley bail breach elements of his criminal history should be looked past because of his notoriety.

“I’m very well known in Port Adelaide, and Adelaide, by police,” he said.

“There’s not been one incident where I’ve intentionally not come to court … I’ve always handed myself in.

“I’m very well known so it’s very hard for me.”

Sandery then told the court “some allegations are correct and some are not real”, stating he was never in possession of a hammer.

He told the court any actions he did take were in response to being “threatened” by the man he allegedly assaulted and told he would be shot if he entered his property.

Mr Foley remanded Sandery and ordered a home detention report to be returned next week.

The three other men were bailed to appear at a later date.
