Maddison Stimpson released on home detention bail, charged with criminal neglect of children

A mother has been banned from communicating with her lover, after she allegedly criminally neglected her two children, including refusing one medical treatment.

What to do if you think a child is being abused

A mother has been banned from communicating with her lover, after she refused a child in her care medical treatment and didn’t protect one from harm, court documents allege.

Maddison Lee Stimpson, 27, was released on home detention bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court last week, charged with two counts of criminal neglect against her two children in the western suburbs.

Court documents sighted by the Messenger alleged Ms Stimpson had a duty of care to a child when they suffered harm and she refused to provide them medical assistance on November 9, 2020 at Findon.

The documents also allege Ms Stimpson had a duty of care to a child when they suffered harm as a result of an act on November 13, 2020.

Ms Stimpson allegedly failed to take steps to protect the victim when they suffered “bruising suspected to be inflicted with mechanism” at Findon.

It is unknown the age of Ms Stimpson’s children.

A prosecutor told the court on Friday they weren’t opposed to home detention bail, but asked for conditions for Ms Stimpson to abstain from drugs and alcohol and submit to testing.

“That’s her main barrier to bail,” the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor also asked Stimpson not to have any contact with any witnesses of the criminal neglect charges, including her current partner.

“He’s probably not going to be cooperative with police … but he’s definitely a witness,” the prosecutor said.

“No he’s not,” Ms Stimpson replied.

The prosecutor said he “certainly is” as they were living together at the time (of the alleged neglect) with the children.

Ms Stimpson, of Findon, also pleaded guilty to three counts of property damage, with the court hearing she damaged a CCTV camera, a car and a phone in October 2020 at Blair Athol.

The court heard she also stole a garden hose nozzle at Kilburn in December 2020.

“I returned the hose so I didn’t really steal it,” Stimpson chuckled, pleading guilty to the theft and disturbing the peace.
Magistrate Edward Stratton-Smith released Ms Stimpson on home detention bail to live with her father, with a condition not to talk to her partner and other witnesses.

Ms Stimpson’s criminal neglect charges, which she is yet to enter pleas to, were adjourned until December.

If convicted she faces a maximum prison term of 15 years.
