THE LARGE rink at Thebarton’s Ice Arena will be closed until further notice.
The South Australian Ice Sports Federation, which operates the arena, announced the rink would be closed for at least the next two months to replace the refrigeration system under the large ice.
The surface was closed on February 23 after a number of small leaks — which were causing the ice to melt — were found in refrigeration pipes.
A statement on the federation’s website said repair work was completed on March 1 but failed tests.
The Weekly Times Messenger is seeking comment from the South Australian Ice Sports Federation.
The announcement comes at a bad time for people looking to keep cool this weekend.
The temperature is set to soar with a forecast of 39C on Saturday and 38C on Sunday.
Public sessions will still be held on the arena’s small rink.
