A range of driving offences were heard in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, leading to fines and penalties.
Kym Naomie Baldock, 48, Collinswood, has appeared in court for driving without a licence after being disqualified for drug driving.
Baldock was stopped as part of a standard police check at 12.51am on June 23 at Milburn Street in Ottaway.
“When spoken to she said she was aware she didn’t hold a current driver’s licence and the vehicle was impounded,” the police prosecutor said.
Baldock had been previously disqualified from May 30, 2018, to November 29, 2018 by the Adelaide Magistrates Court for drug driving. She did not renew her licence after the disqualification.
Pleading guilty in court, Baldock said she had not renewed her licence as she did not own a car.
Magistrate John Wells noted Baldock plead guilty at the first available opportunity.
He said as Baldock was not currently employed, he would not add to her financial burden.
Baldock was convicted and sentenced to complete 30 hours of community work within 12 months.
Magistrate Wells said if the community work was not completed, Baldock ran the risk of going to jail.
Ryan Francis Green, 38, Woodville West, was charged with driving without a licence after a drug driving disqualification, along with two counts of possessing a controlled drug that was not cannabis.
Green pleaded guilty to all charges.
The court heard at 9.10am on June 5, 2019 Mr Green was pulled over by police on Millicent Street at Athol Park for a random drug test.
He was found to be without a licence, after not renewing his licence following a disqualification for drug driving.
He was also found in possession of methamphetamine on that date.
Green also faced another charge of possessing methamphetamine, dating back to September 12, 2018, at Pennington.
Asked about his meth use, Mr Green said it was due to a “bad patch”, with a relationship separation and issues with his parents.
Green was convicted and ordered to do 35 hours of community work within 12 months.
“It would have been 50 hours, but I’ll reduce it due to the guilty plea,” Magistrate Wells said.
Sharon Louise Fuller, 49, pleaded guilty to driving without a licence after being disqualified for drug driving.
The police prosecutor said police spoke to the defendant at the Port Anchor Hotel on Church Place at 11.37am on July 22.
Checks revealed her licence had not been renewed, after previously being disqualified for drug driving.
Fuller said she had not renewed her licence, as she didn’t realise she needed to after her disqualification period was up.
Magistrate Wells said it was a common misunderstanding.
“That’s the problem, when you’re disqualified for drug driving – people often think that their licence ‘pings’ back as soon as the disqualification is over, but that’s not the case, you have to renew it,” he said.
Fuller was convicted and fined $500 but that amount was reduced to $300 due to her early guilty plea.
