Glenelg massage therapist: 30 women identified, four women contact police

A Glenelg massage therapist accused of a slew of systematic sexual offences on 264 alleged victims could be released on bail next week, despite more women coming forward.

Four more women have made sexual assault allegations against a foreign national already charged with raping, sexually assaulting and indecently filming women during massages at a Glenelg massage parlour.

During a bail application for the man, whose name has been suppressed, the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court heard four more women had come forward to police.

The court heard the man, after allegedly indecently filming the women, then contacted them again to arrange follow up appointments.

The police prosecutor told the court three women had alleged the man, 35, of Glenelg, fondled their breasts during massages while one woman had accused him of touching her breasts and vagina.

The “surreptitiousness” of those allegations, the prosecutor said, was part of the basis for opposing the man’s bail application, with him being a flight risk and the chance he might attempt to tamper with evidence also among their concerns.

“The allegations against the defendant are likely to become more serious with further charges laid,” the prosecutor said.

“You Honour must have concerns about the need for protection of women in general in the community.

“The 264 women were filmed without their knowledge and that has an element of surreptitiousness.”

Magistrate Paul Foley last week allowed a police application for a suppression of the man’s name, image and workplace.

The approval was based on a police prosecutor telling Mr Foley there was potential at least 264 other alleged victims had been identified on the man’s phone.

The prosecutor, on Friday, told the court along with four women making contact with police a further 30 women they allege were in photos on the man’s phone had been identified.

By Friday three rape, two indecent assault and two indecent filming charges had been laid against the man.

Marie Shaw QC, for the man, told the court the man would cease working at the massage parlour if he was released on bail.

The end of that employment, she said, would mean the risk of reoffending would be eliminated given all of the allegations stemmed from his work as a massage therapist at the parlour.

“The contact with (the women) is obviously in the context of his work that he’s making follow up appointment,” she said.

“(This is) again reaffirming that these (allegations) are all connected to the work environment and there’s no broader risk to the community.”

Mr Foley said the only form of bail he would consider was home detention and ordered a report.

Whether or not the man would be released on home detention was set to be decided early next month.
