A father’s expletive-laden threats sent his son’s entire school into lockdown on the belief a relief teacher had assaulted his child, a court has heard.

Gary Raymond Evans pleaded guilty to assault in Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Evans, 35, yelled in the corridors of Kidman Park Primary School where he called the teacher a “paedophile” in May last year after his son claimed a person at the school grabbed him by the shirt and hurt him.

There court heard no submission the claims against the educator were substantiated and they were described as a “careless and loose allegation”.

The former tradie, of Mile End, later phoned the school telling an administrator he would drive his car into building prompting a lockdown for the safety of staff and students.

Magistrate Jayanthi Pandya said Evans had taken his son’s claim “on face value” and “immediately losing (his) cool”.

“You made a phone call to … a long time employee and you immediately started swearing,” Ms Pandya said.

“You immediately made accusations the (relief) teacher had ‘f---ing touched your child and you wanted to f---ing speak to him’.

“And you said … ‘(I’ll) drive my car through your f---ing office … I’ll take everyone out. (The teacher is) a f---ing c--- and a f---ing paedophile, he better not touch my child again.”

Lawyer David Moen, for Evans, said his client had reacted angrily about what he initially believed to be an assault on his son.

Mr Moen said he was never likely to implement the threat.

“Albeit there was the seriousness of the offence in the closing down of the school, there was no intention for him to carry it out and it was just an over-reaction,” Mr Moen said.

Ms Pandya recorded a conviction and placed Evans on a two-year good behaviour bond.
