Former Adelaide Crows star Jared Petrenko has faced court charged over the alleged aggravated assault of his former partner.

Petrenko, 32, on Friday fronted the Adelaide Magistrates Court on the charge.

Court documents show Petrenko is alleged to have assaulted his former partner on April 19 this year.

“(You are alleged to have) committed the offence knowing that the victim of the offence was a person with whom you were in, or were formerly in a relationship with,” the documents said.

Media were disallowed from entering the courtroom, which was reserved for family violence matters.

According to the documents, police will allege the assault took place at Mile End, the same suburb at which Petrenko lives.

Petrenko was represented by Nick Murphy, a former SANFL South Adelaide captain.

Outside of court, Mr Murphy said Petrenko would not comment on the proceedings.

“My client will be making no comment … it’s before the court,” he said.

Mr Murphy then asked cameras to stop filming: “you’ve got your shot now”.

Petrenko first faced court on the charge on May 26 this year.

He has not entered a plea.

Petrenko played 76 AFL games for Adelaide from 2009 to 2014, kicking 50 goals, and 116 SANFL games for Woodville-West Torrens before retiring in 2020 and joining Hahndorf in the Hills Football League.

He most recently represented Broadview in its Adelaide Footy League division two premiership season this year.

A skilful and exciting forward at AFL level, Petrenko played an important role for the Crows during his career despite multiple shoulder injuries.

Petrenko also featured on popular home renovation show ‘House Rules’ with a former partner in 2018, the young couple finishing fifth.

Petrenko will next face court in November.
