Finals fever hits Port Adelaide ahead of tomorrow’s big match

Port Adelaide’s heartland is flying the flag for its AFL team ahead of tonight’s first qualifying final against Geelong.
Port Adelaide Enfield Council has Power flags throughout the suburb, while businesses in the main streets have decorated their windows with black, white and teal.
Philip Jenner, who has run the Port Mall newsagency with his wife, Leoni, for more than 20 years, said it would be great for the area if the Power could get over the line tonight.
“It’s all our customers are talking about at the moment,” he said.
“It’s very exciting to see Port Adelaide in the finals. It’s just great for our community.”
Spot Barber Shop owner Raph Hotota said while he had a lot of Port supporters through his doors, he also had a few personal wagers on with clients who were naysayers.
“I think we’ve got one of the best chances we’ve ever had (of winning the premiership),” he said.
Lighthouse Wharf Hotel owner Heidi Barreau said Thursdays were usually a busy night for the pub, but she expected tonight to be buzzing.
“I just think it’s so good for the community, because so much has been cancelled this year, it’s great that we now have something we can look forward to,” she said.
Ms Barreau said while a few of the pub’s regulars were nervous about tonight‘s result, they were “backing them 100 per cent”.
Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Claire Boan said it was great to see the buzz surrounding the finals.
“Port Adelaide is the heartland of the club and it’s been great to share in the excitement with the community, the members and all of those who love the Port Adelaide Football Club,” she said.
