Pet owners can again rest easy visiting a Torrensville park, after what was thought to be dog bait found at the reserve was ruled out as being poisonous.
The suspicious looking substance was found at Kings Reserve, which joins on to Thebarton Oval, by a member of the public on Friday, July 17, about 8pm.
Police were called to the Ashwin Parade park on the night following reports a man was acting suspiciously.
“Police located and spoke to the man who claimed to be feeding magpies with meat,” a police spokesperson said.
“Patrols seized the meat which was tested by a local veterinarian clinic.
“Results returned were negative to any poisons.”
West Torrens Mayor Michael Coxon said the council was relieved there was no threat to residents and their four-legged friends.
“However, in the interests of health and safety, we encourage residents to report any suspicious activity to council or SAPOL,” Mr Coxon said.
A mobile CCTV camera installed at Kings Reserve after the incident will remain there until it is needed elsewhere.
Last month, a dog owner found green pellets that looked like rat poison scattered at nearby Thebarton Oval.
