Dashcam footage captures road rage incident on Bower Rd, near Port Adelaide

A game of right lane chicken caused this tense road rage incident near Port Adelaide — but dashcam footage has sparked debate over who’s in the wrong.

Tense road rage incident captured on camera

An evening road-rage standoff has been captured on dashcam near Port Adelaide, with two cars seemingly caught in a game of right-lane chicken before tensions boil over.

Footage, shared to social media page Dashcams Adelaide, shows one driver overtaking another along Bower Rd and Grand Junction Rd at New Port on May 9, at about 8.20pm.

The second driver then follows in proximity, then speeding up to overtake the first driver.

The first driver then attempts to move into the left lane again but appears to be blocked by the second driver, who swerves slightly into their path to prevent them from overtaking.

After the first driver sounds their horn, the second driver pulls in front of them once more into a right hand turning lane, eventually coming to a stop while waving open their driver’s side door.

A man then gets out of the car, slamming his firsts together and pointing at the first driver before taking off with a skid.

The footage sparked debate when shared on Facebook, with punters suggesting both parties were in the wrong.

“What was the dashcam driver’s hurry to be in the right lane? Both at fault here,” one wrote.

Another added: “You beat him to the front and he’s angry you lost!”

An SA Police spokesperson said the incident had been reported to police and urged anyone who witnessed aggressive driving behaviour to give those vehicles a wide berth, and report the incident as soon as it was safe to do so.

“It is also a timely reminder that drivers can be filmed anywhere, anytime which increases their chances of being caught doing the wrong thing on the roads,” an SA Police spokesperson said.

“Vision, whether captured by CCTV, dashcam or any other source can provide valuable evidence to police.”
