A former Port Adelaide lawyer has faced court on a string of tax offences after allegedly failing to lodge multiple tax returns.

Colin Edward Dorian, 53, of West Lakes, has been charged with ten counts of failing to furnish information as required by taxation law.

Magistrate David McLeod on Friday told Adelaide Magistrates Court it related to outstanding tax returns.

Mr McLeod said Dorrian told the court, at his last appearance, that he was “working on” lodging the returns.

But Dorrian said he was still trying to “work through” documents from “various sources” before he could lodge them, so he was “not quite there yet”.

Dorrian, who said he had received some “informal advice” on the matter, indicated he would likely plead guilty to “a number” of the charges but would approach the Australian Taxation Office to reduce the number of charges once he had lodged his returns.

“It’s time for you to think about that,” Mr McLeod said.

Dorrian used to run his own law firm, Dorrian Legal, in Port Adelaide.

The matter will return to court next month.
