CHILDREN can slide, climb and splash around to their hearts’ content at a Morphettville playground, after it received a $250,000 revamp.
The Appleby Road Reserve has officially reopened, featuring new play equipment, sports courts and an outdoor gym.
Its playground has been transformed with a 4.5m tower and a tunnel slide, climbing frames, swings and water pump.
Carly Bates, of Morphettville, says her children Xariah, 3, and Cory, 1, had a great time exploring the new play area.
“Xariah is very adventurous and she loved the spider web and climbing in the net … and Cory was quite taken by the water feature within the creek bed,” she says.
“A lot of the playgrounds are going to safer, secure bubblewrapped (styles) but my kids get bored with that and they like the challenge.
“I could hear Xariah giggling as she came down the slide, and she liked the echo too.”
The playground now features three-on-three sports courts for basketball and netball, a
a barbecue, picnic area, seats and shelter.
The State Government funded the playground’s development as part of a major overhaul of Housing Trust properties in Morphettville.
There were 160 homes in the 11ha project area before demolition work started, and once the overhaul is finished, that will increase to 271.
