A teenager allegedly demanded money for the safe return of a car he stole from someone during a bizarre robbery.

Wawu Wawu, 18, had his home detention bail conditions removed for the alleged violent theft he committed at a party.

Patrick Deegan, for Wawu, asked for the charge to be dismissed in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday as the prosecution was yet to make a charge determination.

The court heard that there was a party on July 14 at Dover Gardens and three people had retired to a room at the end of the night.

“That room was broken into by other people attending the party,” a prosecutor told the court.

The court heard two people were removed from the room and the alleged victim was left there.

“He was apparently attacked and had items taken from him, including car keys,” the prosecutor said.

“It is alleged that one of the people was armed with a knife.”

The court heard Wawu was the one who allegedly took the man’s car keys.

“He (the alleged victim) received a telephone call which indicated that his car would be returned upon him depositing $2000 into a bank account,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard the alleged victim said he could not get $2000 but could transfer $500.

“The account details were in the name of the accused and the deposit was made into that account,” the prosecutor said.

The car wasn’t returned to the alleged victim but it was later located.

Wawu, of Marden, is charged with theft using force.

Magistrate John Wells refused to dismiss the charge but removed Wawu’s home detention bail conditions.

He was placed on supervised bail instead.

The charge was adjourned until January.
