A brazen daylight break-in has seen a Port Augusta mum lose “irreplaceable” family photos, with the incident part of an alarming trend of break-ins in the city which has seen 10 homes hit in five days.

Thieves broke into Nikki Jaeger’s home near Augusta Park at around 12pm Wednesday afternoon, smashing a window to gain entrance while she was away from home.

While a mobile phone and her child’s gaming console were also taken, Ms Jaeger said a hard drive featuring a collection of precious baby photos of her seven-year-old daughter was the hardest item to part with.

“They’ve stolen irreplaceable photos,” she said.

“It has all of my baby photos on it, I need it back.”

Ms Jaeger said it was not the first time she had fallen victim to a break-in in Port Augusta this year.

“Apparently it’s gotten worse around this area, that’s what the police officer who attended my property said,” she said.

“Most people I know have had their cars broken into. I had my car gone through about three months ago.”

The incident appears to be part of an alarming trend in the area with Port Augusta police confirming there had been eight reports of break-ins, and two attempted break-ins within the township since Sunday.

Anyone with information on any of the break-ins are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
