Police have been called to the scene of a grain truck rollover along a stretch of a notorious SA highway scheduled for upgrades.
Police and emergency crews were called around 4.45am to the intersection of the Augusta and Goyder Highways at Crystal Brook, 20 kilometres from Port Pirie.
The accident left the vehicle stuck on its side with grain contained within the vehicle spilt onto road.
Speed restrictions were put in place on the Augusta Highway while crews work to clean up grain that has spilt from the truck.
Emergency crews are working to right the truck and remove it from the roadside.
Police in attendance said the truck driver was not injured in the accident.
Speed restrictions are in place on the Augusta Highway while crews work to clean up the spill and right the truck.
Traffic is still able to pass through the intersection while the clean-up takes place.
The past year has seen multiple fatalities occur on the highway, most recently when a teenage couple and father were tragically killed shortly after Christmas.
The Augusta Highway is set to receive four major upgrades over the next 18 months as part of the $190m Princes Highway Corridor Program.
Augusta Highway junction upgrades are planned for Venning Road, Clements Road and Flinders View Drive, with planned works on all four roads set to include lighting upgrades and new line marking.
The package of works is scheduled to commence in early 2023, with completion of all upgrades expected in June 2024.
Local Government, Regional Roads and Veterans Affairs Minister Geoff Brock said extra line marking and lighting would “greatly improve road safety for locals in Crystal Brook.”
“Within the community there have been concerns about the safety of the Augusta Highway for quite some time,” Mr Brock said.
SAPOL are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
