Whyalla food shoppers will soon be spoiled for choice with the opening of Aldi’s first store in the city early on June 9.
From 8:30am the new store will provide the community with grocery products, fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and their popular ‘special buys’ featuring various home goods.
The new supermarket will employee up to 20 full or part-time employees on-site at 10 Ekblom St, near McDonald’s.
A further 15-20 construction workers were employed during the construction of the building.
It comes as welcome news to the town as it deals with doubts about the future of Sanjeev Gupta’s steelworks, which employs a large percentage of the town.
Regional managing director Viktor Jakupec, said the supermarket’s continual expansion underscores its contribution $30.2b contribution to the economy since the German retailer moved into the Australian market.
He also said the new store will feature a number of innovations including simple navigation, expansive wooden produce bays and a modern interior.
“We offer a supermarket experience that is like no other in Australia and we are proud to call ourselves ‘Good Different’,” Mr Jakupec said.
“It’s our differences such as having never offered single-use plastic bags, using a coin deposit system for our trolleys and our tight product range that allow us to bring unbeatable value to our customers every day.”
