ADELAIDE will have nearly as many temporary outdoor ice-skating facilities this winter as London.
Outdoor festivals will be held at Victoria Sq in the CBD, Glenelg and Port Adelaide over the next two months with organisers promising something a little bit different.
Skating At Adelaide in Victoria Sq kicks off on June 29 and runs until July 22, the City of Holdfast Bay’s event at Glenelg begins on July 1 and finishes on July 22 while Port Adelaide’s Winterfest runs from July 6 to 22.
Skating At Adelaide organiser Rod Stellor — who has run similar events across the country — said he was confident it would be a success.
“It’s an event that appeals to families and people of all ages,” he said.
“We will have an ice-skating rink with performances on it so there will be entertainment both on and off the ice, an ice slide, a ferris wheel and other rides and a bar and food options as well.”
City of Holdfast Bay acting mayor Amanda Wilson said she believed people would still flock to the coast for her council’s event.
“Nothing compares to ice skating while overlooking the beach at Glenelg,” she said.
“Glenelg offers skaters lots of other things to do once they have finished.
“They can head to the movies, out for a shop, off to the Beach House for a ride on dodgem cars, go for a toboggan ride or play in our foreshore playground, ” Ms Wilson told The Advertiser.
Not forgetting Adelaide’s Ice Arena, which is now featuring Snow Play for the children.
