A magistrate has described a man’s actions as “confronting and alarming” after he grabbed a girl’s breast and then slapped the bottoms of two other women.

A man was told by a magistrate that his actions were “shameful” after he groped three young women in unwelcome attacks.

Thiessen Graham Cairns, 21, avoided jail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, for assaulting three women in July and August, last year at Adelaide.

“Your victims in each of these assaults were young women,” Magistrate John Fahey said during sentencing.

“The offending is very serious … the consequences of these assaults will remain with those young women for a long time.”

The court heard the victim of the indecent assault was aged 15 at the time.

“You had no concern for her tender age when you placed your hand on her breast and then rubbed your hands over her clothes,” Mr Fahey said.

“Your actions were extremely confronting, insensitive and alarming to her.”

The court heard the victim was left feeling embarrassed and ashamed and had become socially isolated since the offending.

Cairns also assaulted two other women by slapping their bottoms.

“Your actions were uninvited and unwelcome,” Mr Fahey said.

Cairns, of Elizabeth Downs, had previously pleaded guilty to indecent assault and assault.

A psychologist report said Cairns’ offending could have stemmed from his depression, which led to poor judgment.

The court heard the man, who is currently unemployed, was remorseful for his actions.

“Your offending against these women were isolated incidents,” Mr Fahey said.

“You’ve expressed your regret for putting the victim of the indecent assault and her parents through that pain.”

The court heard the psychologist said there is no evidence that Cairns has a sexual interest in children.

Mr Fahey said Cairns’ “shameful” offending deserves a significant penalty.

He sentenced Cairns to four months jail.

The sentence was suspended on a 18 month good behaviour bond for $200, with supervision for 12 months.
