West Adelaide’s Chelsea Biddell reckons being cool and calm under pressure helped her break the competition’s record for the most individual goals in a game.

CHELSEA Biddell prides herself on being cool and calm under pressure.

The West Adelaide utility reckons those traits helped her break the SANFLW record for most individual goals in a game.

Biddell kicked six straight majors in the Bloods’ 7.3 (43) to 6.6 (42) victory against Woodville-West Torrens at Richmond on Friday.

She surpassed the previous record of five, jointly held by North Adelaide’s Jenna Maloney and South Adelaide premiership star Courtney Gum.

Biddell, 20, is the SANFLW Player of the Week for round two.

“They were pretty easy goals but I’ll take them anyway,” Biddell, of North Plympton, says.

“I guess I just try to be really relaxed and not think about it too much.

“I just like to take my time when I’m kicking for goal and be very composed.

“But I have worked a lot harder this pre-season than I ever have with general skills.

“After the game one of my teammates told me I had broken the record.

“I didn’t even know, so it was very exciting when I got told.”

Originally from Port Vincent on the Yorke Peninsula, Biddell grew up playing basketball and netball.

She moved to Adelaide at the start of 2017 to study a Bachelor of Physical Education at Flinders University.

Crows AFLW midfielder Hannah Martin and her younger sister Rachelle, who Biddell knew from school, coaxed her into playing Aussie rules with them last year.

“When I started playing football, I didn’t really know whether I’d like it,” Biddell says.

“But I really love it.”

The Bloods have a 2-0 record, beating newcomers Central District and the Eagles.

Biddell finished second in West’s best and fairest last season but said she craved team success the most.

“We are much more connected and we worked a lot on that over the pre-season,” she says.

“I think we are a lot hungrier this year and we want to make the finals and hopefully a grand final.”
