Trinity has stunned college footy powerhouse Rostrevor with a “memory-making” come from behind 10-point upset on Wednesday night.

Under lights at Norwood Oval and with plenty of pressure on, the Lions kicked five goals to zero in the fourth quarter to storm home and win 8.10 (58) to 6.12 (48).

It was the first time the Gawler school has beaten Rostrevor in first XVIII football.

A proud Trinity coach Scott Charlton described the win – his side’s first of the season – as amazing.

“I didn’t get much sleep last night to tell you the truth, I was up and about all night,” Charlton said.

“Just the chance to be in a game last night and then to actually get the points, we’re stoked.

“We spoke about just embracing the opportunity, going out there and make some memories on a league oval, under lights on a Wednesday night with a crowd and the cameras.

“At three-quarter time we said ‘this is memory-making stuff’ and they just embraced that chance to take a bit scalp.”

A 2.6 third quarter from Rostrevor kept the door open and – three goals down going into the final quarter – Trinity smashed through it.

The Lions kept Rossies goalless and booted five themselves to secure the memorable victory.

While there was “a fair bit of carry on” on the bus back home to Gawler, Charlton said his team’s fight was admirable.

“The weather probably helped us out being a bit greasy and the ball being on the ground a bit,” he said.

“We went into it with the mindset of trying to win the ground ball war and talked about winning that and putting ourselves in the game.

“Rostrevor are a very skilful and hard-running side, so the ball being on the deck a bit just gave us opportunities to lay tackles and slow the ball movement up.

“To our boys credit they just kept fighting on and fighting on.”

Ruckman Cody Gilchrist was best on ground for Trinity, kicking four goals from the ruck in a starring display.

Trent Tattoli (two goals), Marco Yandle, Luigi Mondello and Cameron Rogers also had standout games for the Lions.

Trinity will now have a break from matches over the school holiday period, while Rostrevor is due to play division two side St Ignatius next time out.
